Walden Kirsch
I've been a visual storyteller for my entire working life. For the first half of my career I reported the news on TV in the evening for KGW-TV8 (NBC) in Portland, Oregon. I covered everything under the sun: Pacific Northwest environmental issues, Mt. St. Helens' eruptions, the rise and fall of the Rajneeshee cult, the comings and goings of political leaders, forest fires, labor actions, plane crashes, and more. I always worked especially closely with some of the best-in-the-business videographers to ensure I could tell my stories in the best-possible visual way.
For the second half of my career I worked as a reporter and photojournalist for Intel Corporation's news service, covering the technology industry worldwide. I reported on and photographed many of the biggest tech stories of the last 25 years: the emergence of wireless computing, the explosion in mobile devices, the rise of datacenters, multiple generations of ever-smaller and more powerful microprocessors, and more. Working for a global manufacturing company, I traveled widely in the U.S. and overseas to photograph and report on the galloping pace of advanced chipmaking inside factories from Malaysia to Ireland to China to Oregon to Vietnam and everywhere in between.
I shoot with top-quality professional cameras, lenses, and gear, edit on Adobe products, and I am an FAA Part 107 certified UAS (drone) pilot.
My work has been seen over the years across multiple platforms: NBC-TV, CNN, The MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour, Netflix (Wild Wild Country), The Washington Post, The New York Times, Barrons, Al Jazeera, BBC, Financial Times, Tom's Hardware, OregonLive, Newsweek, VentureBeat, AnandTech, ZDNet, CNET, Engadget, FastCompany, PCWorld, The Motley Fool, MarketWatch, TechRadar, Business Insider, and many others.
I completed my undergraduate work at Reed College and earned a Master's Degree in journalism from Northwestern University. I live in Portland, Oregon, with my wife Marilyn Deutsch, who is also a journalist.
If you have an interesting project for which strong and eye-catching photographs could help you tell your story, please drop me a note. Let's talk!
