Aerials
Looking down at the world, not from an airplane window at 37,000 feet, but from an altitude of just a hundred feet or so, can be visually arresting and quite unexpected. The perspective offered by a drone equipped with a high-quality camera and flown by a photographer (not just a hobbyist) can help tell stories in fresh ways. From this unique low-altitude vantage point, a photographer shooting from a drone can focus on interesting small details or events on the ground—but place them in context, literally, with a bigger picture. I am an FAA Part 107 certified UAS (drone) pilot—a non-trivial certification which is legally mandated by the FAA for anyone operating a drone for non-recreational purposes. I've flown my drone to photograph areas as disparate as urban cityscapes, huge construction sites, and remote reaches of Iceland and Greenland.
